The Technology: AES-GCM

We utilize the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) in Galois/Counter Mode (GCM), the same technology trusted by governments and corporations worldwide to protect classified information. AES-GCM provides both confidentiality and data integrity, meaning your files are not only unreadable to unauthorized parties but also protected from tampering. With a 256-bit key length, the number of possible keys is astronomically large, making brute-force attacks practically impossible with current technology.

What happens if I lose my encryption key?

Because of our privacy-first design, we have no access to your keys. If a key is lost, there is unfortunately no way to recover the encrypted file. It is critically important to store your keys in a secure location, like a password manager.

Is there a file size limit?

While the Web Crypto API is very efficient, performance can depend on your computer's resources. We have tested with files up to 1GB, but we recommend encrypting extremely large files with dedicated desktop software. For most documents, images, and videos, Cipher Hub is more than capable.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes! Cipher Hub is a fully responsive web application that works on modern browsers across desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
